Veterans Memorial 63, Floresville 21

Veterans Memorial outscored Floresville 28-8 in the second half of Friday night’s 63-21 victory in the District 13 – 5A Div I season opener. 

Kahliq Paulette led Veterans Memorial with 113 passing yards and four touchdowns. Darius Guess was his favorite target, scoring on touchdown passes of 25 and 30 yards. Paulette also scored on runs of 40 and 14 yards for the Patriots.

Isaac Barrera scored on runs of two and 20.

Jason Lazo (4), John “JC” Solitaire (4) and Jake Roxas (20) all had rushing touchdowns for the Patriots.

The Tigers tied the game with 6 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, Paul Moreno (3), Darian Mayberry (2) and K. Hernandez (5) each had rushing TD’s for Floresville. The Tigers couldn’t complete the rally, Patriots went on to score three more touchdowns before the half.

The Patriots (1-0) will now prepare for their challenge against Boerne-Champion. The Tigers now sport a 0-1 record. They take the field next when they travel to Harlan for a non-league challenge on Thursday, September 5.
