27-6A

Reagan 34, Johnson 28

Junior Texas baseball commit Travis Sthele ran for three touchdowns and threw for another as Reagan got the payback it wanted with a 34-28 victory over Johnson on Friday night to open District 27-6A play.

Austin Miller rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown while Sthele paced the Rattlers with 68 of his own as he helped in grinding out a big win for Reagan. Last season, Johnson snapped Reagan’s district winning streak at 27 games en route to the district crown.

For Johnson, Logan Randle threw for 102 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Justin Rodriguez rushed for a game-high 100 yards and a score. Sophomore quarterback Ty Reasoner added another on the ground. Shane Johnson caught five passes for 73 yards and two scores for the Jaguars (2-2, 0-1).

In the first half, many of the fourth down conversions went Reagan’s way. On fourth-and-25, Reagan scored when Sthele hit recent 6’5, 230-pound Kansas State pledge Konner Fox from 29 yards out, adding to his earlier 36-yard touchdown run for the Rattlers. Fox made his sixth touchdown grab of the year to go along with his one rushing touchdown.
