28-6A

John Jay 39, Holmes 28

Jaylin Hastings rushed for 238 yards and four touchdowns as John Jay held off Holmes in District 28-6A action on Friday, 39-28.

Hastings scored on a 32-yard run in the second quarter to give John Jay (3-2 and 1-2 in District 28-6A) a 19-0 lead with 3:07 remaining before halftime. Danny Amezquita scored on a 30-yard run to get the Mustangs on the scoreboard. In the second quarter, Baylor commit Jacob Zeno hit 6’4 wide receiver Jordan Choate on a 24-yard touchdown pass.

In the third quarter, Holmes got its offense rolling. DQ Haney continued to have success in the running game for the Huskies (0-5 and 0-4), finishing the night with 106 total yards and two touchdowns as Holmes scored 21 points in the third quarter. Both of Haney’s rushing scores came in the third quarter, while Christopher Metero added a 17-yard run to bring the score to 32-21 after three quarters.

Holmes quarterback Raymond Rice completed 7-for-12 passes for 168 yards and a 16-yard touchdown pass to Deshawn Goodman in the fourth quarter. Joey Ortiz caught four passes for 91 yards to lead the Holmes receiving corps.

For the season, the criminally underrated Hastings has already eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark and has 13 rushing touchdowns. The FBS prospect has 1,011 yards on 116 carries for the season, an average of 8.7 yards per carry.
