Highlands 20, Jefferson 0

Nigel Cervantes rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns as Highlands defeated Jefferson 20-0 at Alamo Stadium on Thursday night. It was the first victory for Highlands on the season.

Cervantes opened the scoring with 9:18 remaining in the second quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run. In the third quarter, Cervantes would add scoring runs of 16 and 13 yards, respectively, as the Owls put the game away.

Wide receiver Dre’Chan Moody, one of the top overall players in District 13-5A-I this season, caught nine passes for 132 yards in the victory. Quarterback Gabriel Saenz completed 14-of-27 passes for 163 yards on the night in a steady performance.

Highlands, a definite playoff contender in a wide-open district, will take on Burbank next Friday at the SAISD Complex. For Jefferson (1-3, 0-2), Micah Garcia and quarterback David Perez combined for 124 rushing yards. Jefferson will have a bye week in Week 5 before taking on Burbank on October 5.
