Jordan Battles threw a touchdown pass and ran for two as Brandeis bumped off Steele 31-16 in the Class 6A Division II playoff game.
Brandeis DB Brent Malone picked off a pass in the end zone from Steele’s QB Wyatt Begeal, and Jordan Battles did the rest a couple of plays later, he threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Pake to pad the lead to 28-16.
Any momentum Steele might have had was gone, Broncos Xavier Lopez went on to add 3 more points with a 44-yard field goal bringing the final score 31-16.
Brent Malone scored on a two-yard run, Battles ran for 116 yards on 28 carries and scored on runs of one and four yards.
The Knights rallied back in the second half closing the gap to 21-16, Wyatt Begeal was 14-for-26 passing for 285 yards, three interceptions, and a touchdown pass to Daniel Jackson.
Robert Collins added a 13 yard TD run and Zachary Simmons a 33-yard field goal, however, it wasn’t enough for the Knights to get the win.
The Brandeis Broncos improved to 10-2 with the victory and will advance to the next round of the playoffs in face Hanna Eagles on Friday night, while Steele dropped to 8-4 to end the 2018 football season.
