WASHINGTON, DC — Elijah Schneeberg is only a freshman, but the early returns show a player already finding his footing at the varsity level for Sidwell Friends.
Standing at 6’4” and wearing No. 15, Schneeberg stepped into a program that finished 22-7 overall and 11-1 in league play, earning a #2 state ranking. That environment doesn’t leave much room for slow development. You either adjust or get left behind.
Schneeberg adjusted.

Growing Into the Game
His stat line won’t jump off the page at first glance, but the trajectory tells the real story.
-
Season total: 190 points
-
66 made field goals on 168 attempts
-
39% from the field
-
Showed range with multiple three-point games
-
Scored in double figures several times, including a season-high 18 points
Game by game, the confidence built.
Early in the season, Schneeberg played within the flow. Limited shots, quick decisions, learning pace and physicality. By midseason, he started to attack more. Late in the year, he looked comfortable.
That’s the progression you want from a freshman on a top-tier team.

Moments That Matter
A few performances stood out:
-
18 points vs Saint James — efficient scoring, controlled pace
-
16 points vs Flint Hill — showed ability to produce against strong competition
-
Multiple games with 8–12 points — consistent bench production
He wasn’t forcing shots. He took what the defense gave him and stayed efficient in spots.

Role and Value
Schneeberg’s role was clear:
-
Provide scoring bursts
-
Space the floor
-
Play within structure
-
Learn the system
And he did all four.
On a team chasing wins every night, trust matters. Coaches don’t leave freshmen on the floor unless they earn it. Schneeberg earned minutes and kept them.

What Stands Out
-
Size at 6’4” as a freshman
-
Willingness to play within the system
-
Improvement over the course of the season
-
Ability to score without needing high volume
That combination gives Sidwell something to build on.

What’s Next
The jump from freshman to sophomore year is where players separate themselves.
If Schneeberg continues to:
-
Tighten his shot selection
-
Increase strength
-
Expand his offensive package
You’re looking at a player who can take a major leap.
Right now, he’s a contributor.
Next year, he could be a problem.
