Wise Lady Pumas Fall Short in PG County Championship, Turn Focus to Playoffs
Upper Marlboro, Maryland — The Wise Lady Pumas flag football team entered the Prince George’s County Championship game already holding the title of 4A County Champions after an outstanding 8–0 regular season. Saturday’s matchup against CMIT South was a tough test, as Wise fell 18-12 in a competitive county title game.
It was a tough matchup between two talented teams. CMIT South opened the scoring early and added another touchdown before Wise answered back. Armani Truesdale put the Lady Pumas on the board with a touchdown to make it 12-6.
In the second half, CMIT South extended its lead to 18-6, but Wise kept fighting. Natalie Kelley broke free for an 80-yard touchdown run, cutting the score to 18-12 and keeping the Lady Pumas within reach late in the game.
The Lady Pumas’ defense showed effort and resilience, forcing stops and keeping the game within reach. Head Coach Nick Ferguson said the team will take lessons from this loss and use them as motivation going into the playoffs.
“We’ll take this loss and learn from it,” Ferguson said. “It’s about getting better and staying ready for the next challenge.”
Despite the loss, it was still a special evening for Wise — it was Senior Night. After the game, the Lady Pumas celebrated their seniors for their leadership, commitment, and contributions throughout the season.
Wise senior Natalie Kelley was also recognized for her outstanding performance this year, receiving the Player of the Season award presented by JR3 Photography.

The Wise Lady Pumas now turn their focus to the postseason. They enter the playoffs with an 8–1 record, set to play their first playoff game on Friday, October 31 — Halloween night.
