Yoakum High School is no stranger to talent. The Bulldogs serve as home to Texas A&M commit Jordan Moore, Nebraska commit Joshua Moore, as well as SMU commit Silas Robinson. Coach Bo Robinson’s team seems to be much improved from last season’s State Final Run, boasting a 5-1 record at the bye. They have managed a 3 win improvement in the first six games of the 2018 campaign, and look to be coming together more and more as each week goes by.

One big reason for the improvement is senior DB Isaac Pope. The 3 sports athlete would be the definition of “sleeper” if there ever was one. Although he doesn’t have the name recognition as his aforementioned teammates, Coach Robinson and his staff are certainly reaping the benefits of his size and versatility.

Pope is a 6’1” 175lb cornerback with range. His size matches up well with larger receivers, and his speed allows him to stay in position to defend against any deep threat. The San Benito transfer is a serviceable tackler and plays with a very physical style. Pope plays consistently in all three phases and is a willing blocker in the run game. What is most impressive is his willingness to do the little things. Thru 6-games, he has appeared in 70% of the Bulldog’s 802 plays from scrimmage already this year and is earning more and more responsibility on the offensive side of the ball at the slot and outside receiver positions.

The accomplished 400-meter runner has only garnered 1 recent offer to Wayne State College in Nebraska. He has taken unofficial visits to Abilene Christian, SMU, TXST, and appears to be on the verge of getting more attention with pending unofficial visits to Sam Houston State and Campbellsville University.
