Rene Palomino rushed for 231 yards and three touchdowns as Highlands survived the weather and Lanier 47-14 at Alamo Stadium on Thursday.

Highlands raced out to a 23-14 halftime lead behind a pair of touchdowns by Palomino, including a 50-yard burst to open the scoring with 9:13 remaining in the first quarter to open the scoring.

Senior quarterback Joseph Palafos completed 15 of 26 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns to pace the Owl attack. Palafos would find Palomino on a 76-yard touchdown pass with 4:26 left in the first half. Palomino would finish with 103 yards receiving on four catches.

For the season, Palomino has accounted for 922 total yards of offense, including 681 on the ground, and nine total touchdowns.

Junior Dre’Chan Moody caught six passes for 113 yards and a touchdown to lead the Highlands receivers. Moody and Palofos would hook up on a 41-yard scoring strike to open the third quarter scoring with 10:36 remaining.

Christian Cervantes scored both Lanier (0-3) touchdowns in the loss, including an 87-yard run in the second quarter. Cervantes would finish with 166 yards on 22 carries.

Highlands moves to 3-1 on the season after what many considered a surprising loss to Burbank in Week 3. Highlands will be Idle in Week 4 before taking on Kennedy on Oct. 6. Lanier will take on Kennedy in Week 4 in an attempt to pick up its first victory.
