Clark sophomore Eric ‘Bear’ Wente only needed 13 touches to compile 190 total yards and five touchdowns as the Cougars rounded out the 2017 season with a 42-14 victory over Holmes on a dreary Saturday afternoon. Clark finishes the season with a 3-7 record despite having one of the top offensive units in the San Antonio area.

Wente got to work early as he capped off an impressive breakout season for the Cougars. Wente rushed for 107 yards and four touchdowns, three of them coming in the first quarter, and hooked up with Jayson Flores on an 83-yard touchdown strike with 6:33 remaining in the first quarter to put the Cougars in front 21-0. Clark led 35-0 after the first quarter.

For the season, Wente finished with 1,009 rushing yards and visited the end zone a total of 17 times throughout the course of his sophomore season. Flores totaled 2,220 total yards and 27 touchdowns at quarterback, while Baylor commit Ben Sims, junior Kenneth Bivins Jr., and 6’6 junior Luke Gibson were constant threats in the passing game all season long. The three big-play receivers combined for 18 touchdown grabs on the season as Clark’s offense made them competitive.

Helmes finished 2-8 on the season and were led by Marquis Jones, who rounded out his high school career with 59 yards on the ground and a fourth-quarter touchdown for the Huskies.
